Largest Thermo Roll Supplied Ever (11/06)
SHW Casting Technologies supplied two rolls with fabricated bodies of 1500 mm and 1650 mm diameter and a face length of 14.000 mm to NLI, a Norwegian manufacturer of machinery for the production of fabrics for the paper industry. The reasons to be chosen as roll manufacturer were the unprecedented shape and true running tolerances for fabricated rolls required. A novel concept for heating the larger roll with water up to 150°C has been realized, and is working very well according to the end-user, Heimbach. The roll bodies have been supplied by Eisenbau Krämer, a specialist of large fabricated steel cylinders. We look upon this as the beginning of a cooperation, manufacturing large size temperature controlled rolls for applications other then paper making.
Expandable Edge Insulation (12/06)
The first roll (of a series of eight) with the expandable edge insulation has been shipped to the calender manufacturer. By the simple turn of a socket spanner all 40 edge insulations at one roll end, designed to avoid overheating of the roll edges can be simultaneously adjusted to the actual position of the paper web. The simple and sturdy mechanism can be retro fitted to most of the existing peripherally thermo rolls. See Technical Newsletter No.16 for more details.
Editor of Technical Newsletters Retires as SHW CT Plant Manager (01/07)
After 28 years with the company, the Koenigsbronn Plant Manager, Dr. Michael Zaoralek, will retire at his 65th anniversary in March. He will remain available in a consultative function for the time being. Amongst other duties, he will stay in charge as Editor of this Website, and he hopes to be able to contribute more frequently on topics, the readers do communicate their interest in.
